If you’re storing furniture, make sure that all of your desk drawers, cabinet doors, etc, are securely shut. Using tape, rope, or strong ribbon is recommended. If possible, remove the legs from your furniture to increase space.

If you’re storing electronic equipment, we suggest you store your computer and other appliances in their original packaging since that packaging was intended to protect the items during delivery and storage. Otherwise place bubble wrap on the bottom of a box, wrap your electronics in bubble wrap, and place even more packaging material on top of your item before sealing it with tape. Label box “fragile.”

Files and records need to be placed in appropriate archive boxes. This will make your records easier to access, and it will help protect them.

Books should be packaged on their backs, so their spines aren’t damaged.
