How to Pack Fragile Items for Your Storage Rental in Woodstock, GA & Beyond

Storage Rental in Woodstock, GAWhether it’s your grandmother’s art collection, or your father’s old comic books, deciding to place personally valuable belongings in a storage rental can sometimes be a difficult step. At East Cherokee Storage in Woodstock, GA, we understand that and we do our best to provide you with a clean and secure storage rental unit so you can be confident your property is in good hands.

Regardless of the features our storage rental facility offers you, there are some steps you can take to keep your possessions in one piece. The following are some tips we’ve compiled to help you correctly pack your fragile items for your storage rental.

  • First you should equip yourself with moving supplies such as cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, Styrofoam peanuts, newspaper, packing tape, permanent markers, etc.

  • If you’re storing kitchen china, glassware, crystal, etc. in your storage rental—place bubble wrap at the bottom of a box. Wrap each dish or glass separately with acid free tissue paper. Add plenty of crumpled up newspaper in the voids between the china or glassware to prevent the contents from banging against each other. Place more packing material on the top of the contents and seal the box with tape. Mark the box as fragile.

  • If you’re placing electronic equipment such as computers, cameras, etc. in your storage rental—it is ideal to place any electronic equipment in the original box it came in. This is because the original packaging was designed to protect its contents during shipping and storage. If you don’t have the original box, place Styrofoam peanuts at the bottom of a cardboard box and wrap each item individually with bubble wrap. Similar to packing china and glassware, we encourage you to fill voids between the contents with crumpled up newspaper. Place more packing material on the top of the contents and seal the box with tape. Mark the box as fragile.

  •  If you’re storing silver, gold, brass, or any other metal objects in your storage rental—place bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts at the bottom of the box. Wipe all of your metal objects clean and wrap them in bubble wrap or tissue paper, anything as long as the item is acid free. Place more packing material on the top of the contents and seal the box with tape. Mark the box as fragile.

Be sure to pack all of your boxes to full capacity, but not to the extent where the box can break open. When you place your boxes into your storage rental unit, keep the ones that contain heavier items at the bottom and the lighter boxes on top so you don’t crush your delicate contents.
