Purchase sturdy cardboard boxes that can withstand stacking. Be sure to fill your boxes enough so they won’t collapse in when another box is placed on top. Always stack the heaviest items on the bottom and the lightest on top.

Try to box as many of the items you are storing as possible to keep them protected from outside elements.

If you’re placing mirrors or framed artwork in your self storage unit, use specialized boxes to store them. Mark the boxes as fragile, and stack them on their ends, not flat.

If you’re storing clothing purchase wardrobe boxes so your clothing is easier to find.

Label your boxes on the top, sides, and bottom with their contents.

Place furniture and larger items toward the back of your storage unit. If possible, stack boxes on top of them.

Place the items you plan on accessing most toward the front of your unit. Also, create a walkway with your boxes so you have a path to the items at the back of your unit.
