Equip yourself with quality packing materials such as bubble wrap, newspaper, cardboard boxes, packing tape, etc.

Your cardboard boxes should be a uniform size to make stacking easier. Make sure the boxes are filled to capacity, but not to the point of breaking open. Half-empty boxes will easily collapse if anything is placed on top of them.

Keep the heavier boxes on the bottom, and the lighter ones on the top to avoid crushing any fragile items.

To make your items more accessible, create small walkways between your boxes and furniture.

Place your most valuable items toward the back of your storage unit for extra protection.

If you’ve chosen a non-climate controlled storage unit, leave a space between your belongings and the unit’s walls to allow air to circulate. This can help prevent humidity from damaging your belongings.

Do not place anything flammable—for example gasoline, oil, cleaning fluids—in your storage unit.
